Fish to Fry is an Edinburgh-based band, creating new original songs, telling of sillyness and sentiments, nostalgias and neuroses, of love and yearning. With singer / ukulele / guitarist Lorraine O’Sullivan, accordionist Isabel Lohss, Isla Pitkethly on cello and Arran Sheppard or guests on percussion.
Fish to Fry grew organically, with Lorraine and Isi starting out as a duo, taking inspiration from musical story tellers such as Tom Waits, the German band Element of Crime, Berthold Brecht, Kurt Weill and Jacques Brel, amongst others.
Lorraine O’Sullivan’s bluesy voice and musical expressiveness draws the crowd in every time along with her beautifully melodious songs, often sung with an air of melancholy. Isla Pitkethly joined on cello in 2017 and adds subtle melody and playful bass lines. She also plays with electro-pop band Aino Elina and the RTO. Isabel Lohss on accordion has played with Orkestra del Sol, Raise Your Hem and currently also performs with the Bristol Branch. Arran Sheppard on drums has played with the Edinburgh Samba School and Orkestra del Sol, he’s also a folky, plays fiddle and percussion with the Bristol Branch and can do just about anything!
We can’t wait to see them at this year’s Knockengorroch!
