Kirsty Law

Kirsty Law is an innovative Scots songmaker and singer based in Edinburgh. From a background learning from some of Scotland and Irelandโs great tradition bearerers such as Sheila Stewart, Cathal MacConnell, Sheena Wellington and Margaret Bennett, she has gone on to develop her own strong storytelling voice.
Working primarily in Scots language, Law pairs bold contemporary narratives and sounds with traditional material, with a special interest in expressing that which previously in the tradition has gone unsung – sensitive stories of queer love, unashamed female sexuality – and continuing that which she feels the tradition does best – salving some of life’s darkest subjects, providing a voice for the voiceless.
Kirsty will deliver the workshop Feral Sangs – becoming a creature in the Scots tongue
A chance to learn about ancient songs from the Scots language traditions in which the singer takes on animal form and a discussion about why these songs have come into being.
