Mellow Chants deliver an expressive fusion of music inspired by different cultures – noble energetic reggae, ska, Raggamuffin and Afro-Latin beat led by conscious lyrics and beautiful harmonies – all adding to the positive vibration of Rasta.
The collective encompass three continents and seven countries – Zimbabwe, Sudan, Mozambique, Malta, Chili, Argentina and Greece (for a Mediterranean touch) – and of course, they met in Edinburgh, adding a third country to the mix. Directly influenced by the teachings of Rastafari, Mellow Chants feel their music is a manipulation of something that already existed and was only waiting for someone to tap into it. They are inspired by anything and everything and want their music to be a tool for awareness and togetherness.
Music has always been there from the beginning of time – from the whistling sounds of winds on the highest of mountains, to the harsh waves of the oceans that have been there before the beginning of men. The rhythm starts from the purest heart in all of us before birth, the rhythm is everywhere, if you listen close enough you will hear.
Mellow Chants make music for people because it brings people together and helps us to understand that we are not alone so be sure to join them at the World Ceilidh.
