The priestess of voodoo Rock ‘n Roll pulls no punches with a straight-for-the-jugular, guitar licked homage to Haiti. Described by the Guardian as a Caribbean Patti Smith, Moonlight Benjamin was born in Haiti and lives in France and her music draws on traditions from both countries mixed in with a heavy dash of 70’s US blues rock. Her powerful and rebellious voice is contrasted with the tension of saturated guitars and voodoo trance in a new and explosive style! A bountiful display of energy which plays host to flashes of light and shrouds of darkness, defying musical purity. She is both a voodoo priestess and a powerful singer-songwriter with an impressive vocal range.
Benjamin sounds thrilling, thoughtful and, at times, downright spooky
Her bluesy Haitian rock ballads build slowly, containing a controlled power and sense of theatricality that make her sound as unique as the performer herself.
Her current line-up includes Haitian bass player and percussionist, rock drummer and guitarist Matthis Pascaud, who transforms her songs with his powerful riffs.Incorporating stories of the voodoo spirit world and life in Port-au-Prince, mixed in with lyrics by Haitian writers, Moonlight Benjamin is an unmissable act as this year’s world Ceilidh!
