Skilful acoustic instrumental playing is elaborated and developed into bold, funky, adventurous arrangements that sometimes transform into full on Folk Rock, like Treacherous Orchestra on Acid.
Winners of the best duo category at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2017 and nominees for the same award in 2018, two of Scotland’s most acclaimed musicians Ross Ainslie and Ali Hutton have been working hard on creating a repertoire full of new and original material.
Their first and second albums together were released to huge critical acclaim, with their latest, Symbiosis III, recorded during lockdown and released on 2nd October 2020. The tunes are original compositions, ranging from high octane jigs and reels to beautifully melodic slow airs.
With panoramic soundscapes, the music is a masterful blend of the old and the new, modern Scottish folk music at its mightiest! The full 5-piece band revolves around skilfully played guitar, cittern, whistles and bagpipes, which are the bedrock of the award-winning duo’s sound, as well as musical arrangements that include strings, the extensive use of synthesisers, drum kit and bodhran –all resulting in a much bigger touring sound as they continue to build adventurous and epic arrangements.
We can’t wait to give them a warm Knockengorroch welcome!
