Returning to Knockengorroch in their 30th year, Shooglenifty never fail to get audiences jumping with their unique take on trad. They’ve been known to cause one or two stage invasions over the years!
It all started in 1990 when the group was formed in Edinburgh by musicians from that city as well as the Scottish Highlands and Orkney. Its bright spark was the idea of fusing traditional and traditional-sounding melodies with the beats and basslines of a mixed bag of more contemporary influences. Their energised material soon became one of Scotland’s most unique musical exports.
The band is now credited being the originators of ‘acid-croft’, a fiery and infectious blend of Celtic traditional music and dance grooves that band members describe as “hypno-folkadelic ambient trad.” All to great critical acclaim; their 2018 album Written in Water was named in Mojo’s Top Ten Folk albums of the year.
The band’s 9th studio album is on the way and they will be sharing some electric new numbers with the Knock crowd plus a full-on set of old favourites. There will be dancing, bouncing and bopping, whichever way you choose!
No stranger to the Knockengorroch hills, the band are delighted to be back in front of one of the best audiences in the world. The Shoogles remember the Knock audience as a bouncing massive bopping to their festival-closing set in 2015. So they can’t wait to do it all again on 24 May!
