Cream o’ Galloway
Cream o’ Galloway is an organic dairy farm, where animal welfare and enhancing the environment is top of the agenda. They create unique ice -creams from truly scrumptious recipes using only the finest ingredients, as well having a range of organic artisan cheeses made from their own milk.
Cream o’ Galloway is founded on strong ethical and environmental principles and at their visitor centre near Gatehouse of Fleet the theme of environmental and sustainable systems is apparent throughout, from the menu in the tearoom to the choice of family activities. Guided tours of the farm offer the opportunity to learn about our passion for animal welfare and discover how we minimise our impact on our environment and encourage wildlife diversity.
Come along to the Cream o’ Galloway stand in the Food & Drink Showcase Marquee to try their scrumptious ice-cream, taste their cheeses, and have a go at making your own ice-cream at interactive demonstrations which will run throughout the festival.
Annandale Distillery – a Spirit Reborn
The historic distillery has been through three whisky-making eras and a period when it was used in farming, and it was formerly a Johnny Walker distillery which closed in 1918. Following an extensive restoration project, Annandale Distillery was reborn in 2014; once again single malt Scotch whisky is being produced after almost a 100 year absence.
Annandale Distillery won’t have its first single malt whiskies available to taste until 2018, but here at Knockengorroch’s Food & Drink Showcase Marquee we have a special treat; their unique Rascally Liquor will be here to try so come along and have a wee dram.
Barscobe Castle Nutty Butters
Since moving to the area in November 2011 Lorraine Belshaw has been awestruck and inspired by the wide range of artisan, locally produced food and drink Dumfries & Galloway has to offer. As a massive peanut butter fan, Lorraine had never been satisfied with what’s available in the shops so she launched her own brand of peanut butter. Barscobe’s nutty butters contain only pure home roasted nuts with only a little Scottish rapeseed oil, local honey and Hebridean sea salt added. They contain no added hydrogenated fats, stabilisers or preservatives, are gluten free and vegetarian, and from the feedback received from happy customers, they tast all the better for it.
Barscobe Castle’s freshly made Nutty Butters will be available to try and to buy at Knockengorroch’s Food & Drink Marquee.
Loch Arthur Creamery & Farm Shop
Loch Arthur Creamery and Farm Shop have grown out of the productive efforts of a diverse and vibrant Camphill Community. They are committed to creating meaningful work and making a positive contribution to the local economy. Barry Graham, who manages the shop and creamery, says: “Through the dedication of those who work here, we uphold the highest standards of organic production in our Demeter Certified farm and creamery, our bakery, and craft workshops.”
Come along to the Food & Drink Showcase Marquee to tast some of Loch Arthur’s homemade bread and cheese and find out more about Camphill Communities and Loch Arthur.
The Moniaive Chocolatiers
Buying chocolate should be an experience; an indulgence; the ultimate in taste bud temptation. The Moniaive Chocolatiers offer a combination of all three, built on innovation, fairly-traded organic ingredients and unique Scottish artisan-ship.
Innovation and Scotland, of course, go hand in hand so it is hardly surprising a small operation in a picture postcard village deep in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway in the rural south west should come up with a world first. At the Food & Drink Marquee you can try some tartan chocolate and learn more about this flagship company.
Galloway Herbalist Chloe Bruce has been practicing as a medical herbalist and naturopath for more than 20 years. Chloe will be at the Knockengorroch Food & Drink Showcase Marquee with a selection of herbal teas. Chloe says: “Galloway has a great climate for growing tasty herbal-tea plants including a variety of mints, elderfl ower, honeysuckle flowers, red clover fl owers, rose, meadowsweet and lemon balm. Come along to the Food & Drink Showcase where Chloe’s herb teas will be available at tasty tea sampling sessions – great for after a heavy night – and join in some interactive demonstrations.
