As summer settles in on the beautiful South West of Scotland, many different people will be making very different journeys to reach the Uplands in Galloway, all to experience The Knockengorroch World Ceilidh 2016.
This May 26—29, we take to the hills and celebrate another year of stunning Scottish scenery, great music and diverse culture, partying with some of the finest musicians and performers the world has to offer. Join us for a melting pot of the most ancient world roots music blended with the latest cutting edge artists and sounds, and encounter the wonders of the Celtic diaspora and everywhere in-between all in one place.
Find our fun filled four-day festival down by the glittering Waters of Deugh, resting comfortably beneath the broad shoulders of the South West’s mountain peaks, with unique and exciting performances brought to you from Scotland, all the way to Jamaica, Denmark, Venzuela and far beyond…
The first truly backwoods upland music fest in Scotland will this year see stomping sound system set-ups brought to us from the legendary Mungo’s HiFi and Edinburgh’s Electrikal Sound System along with the politically-focussed rapping exploits of Glasgow’s Loki as well as Yslem Hijo Del Desierto, a young rapper hailing all the way from Western Sahara.
We will see unforgettable performances from huge international old school acts such as DJ Krafty Kuts and much-celebrated outfit Freestylers. A thorough range of electronic music will be brought to the remote setting by widely-respected acts such as Auntie Flo and Optimo alongside a diverse selection of traditional/folk music by way of bands like the world-renowned Skerryvore and the brilliant Niteworks.
This year’s World Ceilidh brings artists from all ends of the earth to the roots music celebration. Visitors can expect a rare UK appearance from Jamaican outfit Black Uhuru who are responsible for many modern reggae classics, as well as the incredible 47SOUL which unites Palestinian artists from many different regions. The vivacious and exuberant delights of Orkestra Del Sol will add a Latin / Balkan twist to the multi-cultural proceedings along with the charismatic energy of Venzuelan vocalist led group, Family Atlantica.
