Returning once again to Knockengorroch World Ceilidh, Cera Impala, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, is a guitar, ukulele, and banjo-wielding mama with a uniquely timeless voice and a writing style that equals it in magic.
Impala performs with her hand-picked band, The New Prohibition, featuring the talents of Joel “Jello” Sanderson on double bass and “Dr.” Dirk Ronneburg on fiddle. Drawing on both their American and Scottish roots they offer up a slice of hillbilly noir and a measure of gritty 20’s and 30’s jazz, with one foot in the past and the other in the future of folk, jazz and Americana. Dr. Dirk, her husband and long-time musical partner is a fiddle-blazer of the highest degree also performing with gypsy jazzers Viper Swing and in the folk supergroup, Southern Tenant Folk Union. The synergy between them is palpable; “their music is indeed otherworldly.
“Born in Flagstaff, AZ Cera has made many places her home since ’94 when she left; from Portland, Oregon, to New York City, California, Olympia, Washington. Finally settling in Edinburgh where both her and her music have taken root.
For her new duet project, Delightful Squalor, Impala has teamed up with fellow American, seasoned singer song-writer, Lake Montgomery of Paris, Texas. Together they deliver an authentic Americana experience. Guitar, 5 string Banjo and ukulele in hand, they craft songs to help you forget a world gone mad. A taste of country blues, gospel, folk and old-time jazz, they take from a range of influences resulting in a sound that comes across as quite its own. A celebration of ‘less is more’, a sweet and savoury something to fill your heart with song and light.
In all her collaborations, one thing you can guarantee is the easy familiarity of her work, her songs will invite you in like well-loved friends.
