DJ Food
DJ Food is the long-running experimental project of British DJ and producer Kevin Foakes, best known for his work with the Ninja Tune label. Emerging in the 1990s, DJ Food blended hip-hop, ambient, downtempo, and sample collage into richly textured soundscapes. The project gained acclaim through the “Jazz Brakes” and “Refried Food” series, which became influential among turntablists and producers. Over time, Foakes expanded the concept into audiovisual performances, radio shows, and archival mixes, maintaining a reputation for crate-digging depth, sonic storytelling, and genre-defying creativity within electronic music culture. His releases remain prized for detail, humor, and immersive listening experiences.
