Knockengorroch 2022’s festival theme DIVAS and ICONS is announced with a series of gorgeous photos featuring our own festival diva, SAY Award winner, rapper and singer Nova, one of the artists poised to play our Shieling stage in May. The shots were taken down at the river Deugh at Knockengorroch recently, inspired by Botticelli’s Birth of Venus painting.
The freshwater mussel shell installation highlights the endangered status of Scotland’s freshwater mussels. Dubbed the liver of the river, these organisms are crucial for filtering out toxins and keeping rivers healthy. Scotland is one of the last bastions in the world for this complex organism and they are heavily protected, if you see any, don’t touch!
The Deugh runs through the site and has long been the spot for wild swimmers, happy paddlers, campers with a view or just to while away the time by its waters. The river becomes the Dee and its name means ‘Black Dee’ with the Dee coming from the Indo European word ‘deva’. So our river is called ‘Black Diva’ – what better excuse for a fabulous outfit theme.
Knockengorroch invite festival goers to channel their inner (or outer) divas and become their own icons, in whatever form that may take, from rock god to Celtic high priestess.
Advance prices tickets are selling like hotcakes but still available here
