If you are looking for a kid-friendly festival next summer, Knockengorroch Festival has so much to offer families! Set in stunning scenery in the hills of Galloway, with an incredible musical line-up across eight venues, there is lots to explore for families and plenty of activities to keep children of every age occupied throughout the weekend.
A dedicated kids’ tent has loads of games, crafts and activities on offer. Kidding Around provides entertainment from 10am – 7pm the whole weekend, keeping children from 0 to 10 and older entertained with their crowd-pleasing charm, which includes face painting, jewellery making, parachute games, yoga, bubble games, paper aeroplane racing and puppet making!
Each year Knockengorroch places a special emphasis on family programming. In 2023 we welcomed the Barrowband who sing about, and give out, fruit and vegetables for the whole family’s enjoyment. Special activities such as Jukebox Bingo see all ages getting involved. Further workshops and activities include circus skills, fairy garden building, dream catcher making, toothpaste making, mud face painting, Gaelic singing, storytelling, puppet shows and more! The activities throughout the weekend lead to a children’s procession on Sunday where creations and skills can be demonstrated in a parade which moves across the whole site.
One of Knockengorroch’s chief remits is to bring people to the land and provide an opportunity for all to engage and connect. Our pond dipping workshops are especially well attended with adults jostling for views over the children! The valley is a biodiversity corridor, part of the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire biosphere, and there is much to discover. There are not many places you can watch a dragonfly emerge from its chrysalis and fly off. Knockengorroch is one.
Other initiatives for families include viewing the stars in this UNESCO designated Dark Skies park area with a Dark Skies ranger and their telescope.
Our beautiful mountain riverside valley location provides an opportunity for the whole family to spend quality time with each other in stunning surroundings and connect with nature. With plenty of opportunities for quiet camping along the river up from the main arena, families can also spend time swimming in the river or hill climbing while on site.
With children under 11 going free and under 16s half price, Knockengorroch Festival is fantastic for families wanting to get away from it all in 2024.
