Proc Fiskal is the moniker of Edinburgh based producer Joe Powers. He began making his own beats as a teenager using grime sample packs, imbuing his music with a dark sense of humour and a distinctive point of view on his home town. He was noticed by Hyperdub founder and fellow Scot Steve Goodman AKA Kode9, which led to him signing to the iconic label aged just 19. His first LP Insula came out in 2018, followed by acclaimed 2021 record Siren Spine Sysex, which blended grime and 90s synths with Gaelic folk as a commentary on the tourist industry’s commodification of Scottishness.

By contrast, his 2023 EP RT Hon EP experiments with a sparser palette, weaving melodies around slithers of human voices. The result is a strangely beautiful body of work which oscillates between club-ready basslines and glitchy ambient vocals.
